I generally don’t recommend smoothies for weight loss, but not because they don’t have healthy ingredients or aren’t low-calorie enough. I mostly tell people to avoid eating them regularly for weight loss only because they aren’t great for satiety (at least for most people). If they don’t keep you full for a long time, then you’ll be reaching for something else to eat shortly after.

My best advice to enjoy a delicious vegan oatmeal smoothie is to eat a whole food alongside it. Something like a whole fresh banana is a great option. The intact fiber from this solid food will also help prevent your blood sugar from spiking and subsequently bottoming out shortly after. I love a nice thick and creamy oatmeal smoothie, and if you want to enjoy them now and then (or more if they do keep you full), I say go for it!

Again, if smoothies don’t keep you full for a while, I wouldn’t recommend leaning on these for regular weight loss meals. But enjoying them now and then is a great addition to your weight loss journey! Remember, not all oatmeal smoothie recipes are created equally (or healthy), so be sure to check those ingredients for undercover unhealthy additions. This is not plant-based or vegan, so be sure to swap out the milk for plant milk (I recommend almond for weight loss, oat milk for a little creamier texture), and swap the Greek yogurt for a plant-based alternative.
